Apogon maculatus is a Cardinalfish from the Western Atlantic. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to a size of 11 cm in length. It can be aggressive towards other cardinal fish. Only one should be kept in a tank unless in mated pairs. Otherwise it does well with peaceful tank mates as long as it has caves and places to hide. The ideal water conditions should be as follows: Temperature between 72 and 79°F with a pH of 8.1 to 8.4, sg 1.020-1.025 and dKH at 8 to 12.

Diet: It require a well-balanced and vitamin-enriched diet of meaty foods such as feeder fish, crustacean and mysid shrimp and bloodworms. Feed daily.
